Brake Pad Replacement

Brake pad replacement is the most common repair job for automotive brake systems. If your brakes are noisy, the brake pedal is pulsating, or the brakes are responding poorly, you may need to replace the brake pads.

Brake Fluid Change

As brake pads wear, some loss of fluid is normal, however if you notice considerable loss then a leak is likely and should be inspected as soon as possible. Fluid loss will create loss of brake pressure which means no or poor braking ability.

Are your car brakes making noise?
If your car’s brakes are making noise, they may be trying to tell you something. When your vehicle develops a noise that you feel unsure about, bring it in for an inspection. Some common noises that may be a warning sign to the driver are :

Grinding Noise
There could be two issues when hearing this noise. One is a common noise that may be heard during the first couple stops if the vehicle has not been driven recently. The noise should disappear after a distance and does not usually indicate a problem. If the brakes pads are worn, very thin and damaging a rotor, some vehicles will emit a grinding noise and / or poor braking performance. If this noise is heard, brake repair is unavoidable. Have your brakes serviced as soon as possible.

Squeaking and Squealing
This may be the most common noise complaint. This noise usually occurs with semi – metallic brake pads while driving at medium speeds or perhaps in conditions of rain and high humidity, it’s because of the metal to metal contact. This noise does not usually indicate a problem and braking performance is not an issue. It is caused by the materials that make up the pad linings themselves. Most brake pad manufactures offer organic or ceramic pads that may make this noise less irritating but will cost a little more. Remember some noises are a very normal part of your braking system.

Loud Squeal Noise
A continuous loud squeal normally is wear indicators. It is a signal to the driver that the pads need replaced soon.

Is your Brake Fluid Low in the Reservoir?

Leaks can occur at the calipers, wheel cylinders, master cylinder or any line or fitting. Our general rule of thumb is not to top off brake fluid unless a repair has been made. The first picture is a rusty brake line on the verge of leaking and the second is a rusty brake line is leaking.

What do these brake warning lights mean?

Your brake light will stay on your dash if any of the following is occuring:

Emergency brake is on
Brake fluid is low

If your brake light comes on while driving, it may indicate that you have lost pressure in half of the brake system or that the pressure is lower on one side than the other. If this occurs, you should pull over slowly and come to a stop. If the brake system has completely failed, you will have to use your emergency brake to stop. This may indicate a leak in one part of the system and the inability to hold pressure. A towing service should be called to bring the vehicle in for service and repair.

If your vehicle is equipped with anti lock brakes and you see the ABS light staying on after the bulb check or the light comes on while driving, this signifies a problem. The ABS controller will disable the system and your brakes will function as if you do not have ABS. You should be able to drive safely to your local auto repair shop for diagnosis.
